What does marketing look like when the Internet surrounds us like the air that we breathe?
Fascinating to think about… 🙂
The fundamentals of marketing are always going to be the same, how we as marketers activate these fundamentals and get ahead of the trends and anticipate the next big would be a Smart marketer.
Instead of thinking in terms of digital marketing, think of marketing in a digital world that can be integrated seamlessly with the marketing groups and play an important role in how marketing strategies are developed and applied.
Social media produces a different, more elusive consumer with short-term thinking. Pointless chasing of daily “likes”, “shares”, “tweets” etc. leads you nowhere. Rather if you have more consumer data, the consumers are capable of faster adaption of real-time marketing.
Marketing is becoming even more individualized, as consumers resist homogenization. Personalization is not a trend. It is a marketing tsunami, here to stay, which will transform how we think about and how we manage global brands.
Organizations should embrace the marketing in the digital world as an ecosystem and lessen their focus on demand creation and heighten it on organizing an end to end customer journey through digital storytelling tactics.
In the age of increasing digital noise, visual storytelling will continue to emerge as a strategy for not only standing out, but also for nurturing and growing vibrant and engaged communities that would inspire emotions and spark the movement and get noticed.
The major change is NOT about digital marketing but by Going Back to Basics. Get cracking folks, it’s time to actually care. That means dedicating more resources to things that are harder to track.
